Review of Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) by J.j.s.p. W — 31 May 2010
+ emotional, touching story.
+ cinematography is delicate and beautiful, which meshes perfectly with the mood and theme of the film.
+ honest, good acting and dialogue--often hard to find in films about Asian culture, in which characters usually tiptoe around the real issues.
- some of the plot seemed rushed, in order to fit it into the film (e.g. Nobu-Chairman interrelationship, Dr. Crab storyline development)--these storylines were covered in much greater detail in the book, but couldn't be fit in their entirety into the film.
