Memoirs of a Geisha film adaptation of the novel of the same name, directed by Rob Marshall. Starring Zhang Ziyi, Ken Watanabe, Gong Li, Michelle Yeoh. Film received six nominations for Academy Awards but won only three namely Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.

Memoirs of a Geisha is the story of a young girl who is sold into slavery by her family she is then sent to become a geisha in a school of geisha. She is on the desperate struggle to find love. Film garnered much controversy for its mostly Chinese lead-cast.

I had been wanting to see this film for many years, but never got the time to do so, especially since the subject was too complex for me to cover. I would never call it a great experience to come by this film, nothing interested me at all, except the unique cinematography work, it captures liveliness of film's atmosphere.

I always seek magnanimous work on sensitive assignments in the movie-making such as set-designing, costume-designing, directing and above all photography, Memoirs of A Geisha proves eligible for securing positive ratings from; however I would also like to point out here that this time around RT was quite right in awarding it lesser ratings.
