Review of Memento (2000) by Eli T — 20 Jan 2014
A solid success as a neo-noir experiment, but Memento's utter failure to convey a story with characters worth investing in shows. The empty climax left not only a terrible taste in my mouth, but a sardonically exasperated conclusion as well; nothing in Memento really matters.
It's the ride that counts. Since the ride was particularly unfulfilling anyway, this showcase of humanity's utter cruelty outweighs even its excellent coherency. Nihilism at its most refined.
