Review of Memento (2000) by Nehemiah — 18 Oct 2019
This movie by Christopher Nolan predates the Batman trilogy. It's a story about a man seeking revenge for his lost wife. The man, Leboard Shelby, has a memory disorder that keeps him from remembering what he is currently doing as a result of the assult on him and his deceased wife.
In order to make due with this illness he takes it upon himself to photograph everything he comes across on his pursuit for the assailant. Because this method of life is inefective for him to do any real detective work he takes his pursuit to the next level by tatooing important information on his body.
Told out of order this story plays with not only the protagonist's sense of trust but the viewer's as well. For example halfway through the movie he comes into a woman's house for more clues about the killer.
While he's speaking with her the viewer is left in the dark as to her true motives as a result of seeing things in the eyes of the protagonist and his memory disorder. Yet the drive Shelby has to find the killer who stole his life and love remains until the very end of the film.
