Review of Memento (2000) by Bob B — 08 Jul 2018
Holy guacamole!!! This movie is a WILD ride.
This movie physically hurt to watch, and I mean that as a complement. Is Christopher Nolan's adventure through the mind of a man with Short Term Memory Loss, we begin to question the certainties of our reality. By screwing the timeline of events, Nolan leaves us just as dazed and confused as our protagonists Lenny. By having an unreliable protagonist, unreliable supporting characters, and an overall unreliable world, what anyone could take away from memento is, are the things I know as true, even true?
This slow burning ember of a movie draws out your anxiety, your anticipation, your confusion. We so desperately want a piece of solid evidence we wait 2 hours to hear it! But low and behold, when the final scene roles in, we are left just as confused and unsatisfied as we were at the beginning of the movie, maybe even more!
Don't watch this movie if you've had a hard day at the office, because this requires FOCUS. Its a great film that although not as extreme and action packed as movies like Shutter Island really has legs and speaks for itself.
