Review of Melvin and Howard (1980) by Adrian B — 15 Jul 2012
Might as well just be called Melvin. Howard Hughes is only in the movie for the first 20 minutes or so. The rest of the movie focuses on Melvin and his family issues, including his wife, played by Mary Steenburgen, leaving for him for reasons that are quite unclear.
Some scenes don't always go somewhere and are somewhat rushed at times, but there are some strong moments and Paul Le Mat is great as Melvin Dummar. Good cinematography (loved the crane shots and minimal lighting).
Overall, the film is just erratically paced and again can be rushed, but you have a great performance by Paul Le Mat.
