Review of Melancholia (2011) by Ven V — 06 Feb 2014

This film uses environment, time, texture, and mood as sculptural elements. A lush fairy tale estate is the setting for a diptych of tales, eternity vs. finality, in which darkness and light dance, bow, and dosey doe; each having their strengths, each their weaknesses.

Its saturated blown out romanticism reminded me that licking wounds can be enjoyable. At times I swear I tasted the air and the light: like wet earth and copper. There was a faint trace of perfume which was slowly replaced by electricity and ozone.
