Review of Melancholia (2011) by Richard L — 23 Aug 2014
Disaster movie meets ponderous art film. I've seen it three times now and love it more every time. Kirsten Dunst is relevatory as a woman suffering clinical depression who just might be the only one best equipped to deal with the end of the world.
The opening chapter begins with misleading cheerfulness and humor while the second chapter documents how the end impacts seemingly well-adjusted individuals. All of it is captured in beautiful color and scenery, including the awe-inspiring sight of a new planet hovering in the sky.
