Review of Melancholia (2011) by Seth Y — 22 Feb 2015

This film is a beautiful fantasy movie. I was indeed captured by the trailer and meet my expectations. Melancholia is one of those rare bizarre movies that step out of the comfort zone like most Sci-fi films usually take. It mainly gave me more drama than Sci-fi which makes unique.

The drama aspect of the movie did its job for sure. In my opinion, very dramatic with a twisted storyline that played out well with the characters. Though...it was boring at times, that's the problem for me, too much focus on this one twisted storyline that it became boring pretty fast and brought the movie to a slight stand-still. The Wedding scene was nice.

Now...the styling and artistic was right on the money! It is the main thing that kept me engaged with watching this "Moving Art" of a film. The camera work has a little to do with that as well for which we got beautiful scenes all through out. I love the 2nd person perspective! With the imagery and setting, it came out to be a very artistic and stylish movie for me.

The music was great too! Most times through the film, there was a soothing tune being played that related to the mood of the scene so well. It gave off an elegant vibe to the film. Great sound effects towards the end when we came upon our conclusion/climax. Just needed a more lighter side though. It was beautiful but at the same time got gloomy and depression which then made the already down-hill story get even more boring!

I like the psychological affect to it as well. Overall, it is still a very beautiful movie, it really is! I did enjoyed it to some extent and I continue to watch it because of the beautiful scenes and acting as well. Just needed some action and humor to go along with the it. Also, more suspense and surprises to the storyline.
