Review of Melancholia (2011) by Hady M — 14 Sep 2013
A unique, fascinating and ultimately haunting movie. Two films, actually, linked by common characters, plots and themes. The first, a character study of depression and a life seemingly void of purpose (on one's wedding day, no less!).
The second, a creepy, surreal interplanetary thriller (with a sensational ending). Throughout both, fantastic, imaginative cinematography and quality acting (Kirsten Dunst is sensational). One warning: For those who prefer their movies simple and straightforward, Melancholia is not your cup of tea.
Thoroughout the entire movie, there is not a single shootout or car chase...though there is one speedy golf cart.
