Review of Megamind (2010) by Sharon P — 13 Mar 2016
Delightfully offbeat animation from Dreamworks, a nice and frequently hilarious parody of Superman, albeit from the perspective of a villain with an obscenely large cranium. Both the titular Megamind and his superhero rival Metro man are hurled from their dying planet, and upon reaching earth they diverge into two very different paths, one showered with riches and adoration, the other crash landing into a prison and being raised be ne'er do wells.
Megamind wears the parallels with Superman on its sleeve, with Will Ferrell doing a hilariously bad Marlon Brando impression at one point, and for the most part the laughs keep coming. Megamind manages to be a rare parody in modern times that actually works, it's clever and doesn't rely on gross out humour to win over the audience. Also gains bonus points for the classic 80s rock sound track.
