Review of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) by Christian B — 03 Jan 2010
On a critical level: THIS FILM STINKS! The acting- very poor, the directing- less than average (to be kind), the script laughable. The effects are on a par with a 1960's episode of Star Trek and the sound quality is very ropey.
The sets are unashamedly used time and time again with slight changes in props or lighting with laughable resuts. The 'Military instillation' is clearly a cement factory. But to be fair it clearly had a microscopic budget, which without doubt is it's savior.
I like to think of this film as a salute: perhaps a misguided one, to those 1950's B-movies that we find so amusing. The re-use of sets reminds me of William Campbell Mezies' 1953 cult classic: The Invaders from Mars.
(A much better film by the way!) The incompetent military reminds me of Ishiro Honda's 1954 film Godzilla and the subsequent sequels. In conclusion, as utterly incompetent and appalling as this film is: it did make me smile and laugh for all the wrong reasons.
