Review of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) by Pave M — 18 Mar 2010

The Asylum production company did it again - provided a cheap, cheesy, hilariously fun low budget movie that helped passed a couple hours of my time. This time though it was with an all-original movie and not a mockbuster which they are more known-for.

Sure, there are overly-annoying and pointless flash cuts that make no sense, most action scenes only last 60 seconds or less, and the special effects, dialog, and script are horrible, cheesy, badly-written, and makes little to no sense, but that's exactly what I look for, and hope, in an Asylum-made movie! Its part of its charm and is what makes these movies so much fun to watch while having a beer or two.

And the acting, while still bad by normal standards, was actually better then average for this company and at times (rare times) actually decently good, so that was a surprise. And while the action scenes may have been annoyingly short, what we do get is some pretty amazingly cheesy stuff, such as a the Mega Shark leaping so far out of the water that it takes down a passenger jet flying high in the sky overhead, the Giant Octopus taking out a fleet of subs in a split second, crushing each one in a different tentacle at the same time, the shark taking out the Golden Gate Bridge, the Octopus taking down a battleship, and of course the fight scenes between the two colossal beasts.
