Review of Meet the Fockers (2004) by Stephen S — 23 Dec 2014
Another run of the mill American comedy that is watchable without providing any edge of your seat thrills or laughter. If you like the first, you'll like the second. I thought the original was average, hence this was also destined to be average too.
There's not a great deal more to say. It picks up nicely from the last movie, with Greg Focker having seemingly won over his father in law, now ready to make the next big hurdle of introducing him and his wife to his own parents, the mother being an extravagant sex therapist.
As you'd expect from his CIA background, there are various other trust barriers that need to be overcome for De Niro's character including ensuring that Greg is not the father of a child from his previous relationship with the housemaid, and that his Grandson can be babysat by other members of the family using the conventional breast feeding techniques he has designed.
You can't argue with the quality of performance in this as its full of movie legends like Hoffman that are versatile enough to master a new field of comedy, but the script is designed more for an audience more easily pleased than myself, especially given I am particular when it comes to brands of humour.
Nothing else particularly negative to say about thus other than its not exactly original, just a tried and tested dose of Corny American humour that will be loved by some, not by me.
