Review of Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) by Devin L — 30 Nov 2009
Worth watching alone just for Judy Garlands often imitated never duplicated "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" A far more chilling song than one may think. The scene is heartbreaking. I had never watched the film and it just came on-demand so I thought I'd get it. An american classic and one of the few musicals that doesn't feel forced. The production and technicolor is one for the books, especially for 1944. The story and its message hold up well over 100 years after it takes place.
Odd Trivia : In order to get Margaret O'Brien (5 yr. old Tootie) to cry convincingly during a later scene in the film, her mother (untruthfully) told the actress that her dog had been run over by a car and died, which infuriated Garland.
