Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Ruthie S — 09 Jun 2011
This is a Western like you have never seen. Beautifully straddles the poles between Dances with Wolves and every John Wayne flick ever made. The mostly grim details of everyday life on the Oregon trail are remarkable in their seeming authenticity and in the way they advance the overarching, if familiar but still unexpected, theme of the piece.
Roughly put, when it comes to man versus nature, man had better submit. Netflix it if you like challenging but exhilarating films.
