Almost an anti-western, this depiction of the Oregon Trail is less about historical accuracy and quick-fire action and more about blind faith, futility, and . The American mid-west is depicted is all its barren and desolate glory thanks to the fantastic cinematography, which effectively accentuates the bleak and unclear fate of the travelling families.
The glacial pacing will likely turn off most viewers, and the rather open ending will frustrate many others as well.
