Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Tom S — 06 Nov 2011
The film has you thinking about the hardships of its characters compared to yours from the very first shots of people gathering water or sticks, and yet it does this without ever becoming indulgent or ostentatious.
It owes a heavy debt to âThere Will Be Blood,â? borrowing two actors, a strings-laden soundtrack and bare desert, but director Kelly Reichardt makes it into her own, particularly with an ending that catches you off guard but couldnâ(TM)t have come at a better moment.
