Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Todd S — 27 Jan 2012
Like all of Kelly Reichardt's films, "Meek's Cutoff" tests your patience, especially in the first half hour -- I have never seen so much darkness or incomprehensible grunting in a movie.
But despite the simplicity of the story, which seems almost purposefully inchoate, this is a powerfully resonant film -- easily the most stark, unsentimental portrayal of the American West ever depicted in cinema.
