This movie was a trip. And while I can totally appreciate it on a cinematic level, in terms of my actual enjoyment, I had a harder time. Because when this film is seen after films like Goodfellas and Casino.
This feels almost like a variation on the same type of story. The abrupt ending really gave this film quite a different vibe (I got chills seeing Deniro run down the corner holding his neck), but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
The slow mo camera pans to music were just awesome though. That scorsese trademark is one of the reasons he remains one of my favorite directors ever. Although I know this film's significance, I can't say I thought it was a classic like Goodfellas.
