Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Chris D — 15 Jan 2009
The movie has a heap of flaws like shots that just don't make any sense and a few editing blips here and there, but a pretty good film considering it was a debut film!
I waited and waited for a plot to materialize but it just never happened, and the dialogue often strayed from witty and even philosophical to repetitive and downright annoying. As far as cinematography goes, nothing really stood out other than a handful of terrific tracking shots. I didn't see anything special about Keitel's acting, but De Niro does stand out as the stupid, devil-may-care Johnny Boy. You do see the beginnings of where Scorsese is going to venture in his career.
