Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Nikolai E — 09 Jul 2009
In five years, Martin Scorsese went from film school kid with potential to effortless master of the form, at least that's what this film makes him look like. There's innovative and effective cinematography on display, but it all comes down to a spectacular cast in prime form that produces a collective performance in the same league as 'The Godfather.
' You believe everything they say, feel, and do, and understand why. Scorsese made some great films, but I don't think the acting, as a whole, has ever felt this right again.
