Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Keaton P — 24 Sep 2009
With Mean Streets Scorsese seems to bring a willingness to experiment that I am yet to see in his latter works. His use of stylistic shake adds somewhat of an amateur feel to an otherwise brilliant culmination of what great 70's cinema would later aim to capture.
"That's a contradiction" De Niro's embodiment of the lower class New York Italian is worthy of marvel. You feel his cuts, you know his steps, and one can't help but sympathize with his dead end situation.
Harvey Keitel although true to his role, tends to find himself lagging in caparison to brute of a co star. Full and full Mean streets is an iconic film worth every second of the viewers time and energy.
Now that you have read this, forget everything you just read, this review is bullshit.
