Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Guido S — 04 Jan 2014
In an early work from Scorsese, we have Harvey Keitel and De Niro as a young gangster works his way up while also having a bit of a crisis of character with his religious background. Could have been great knowing what Scorsese turns out these days, but this was a very rough and raw effort by him.
You can see the glimpses of what he would do later in his career, but this one just doesn't have a good flow or even keep you all that interested. It has a great idea, but the execution isn't what you would expect from the early career of one of the all time greats.
