Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Nanda K — 31 May 2010
If there's a genre called "mobster movies", then there should be a totally separate catagory called "classic Scorsese mobster movies". Aside from Martin Scorsese being an all around spectacular filmmaker, he is the person who has defined the whole "mobster movie" genre.
"Mean Streets" is probably Martin's best gangster film (other than possibly "Goodfellas"), as well as one of the many best film's from him in general. Not one single filmmaker can compare to the works of Scorsese.
