Review of Mean Machine (2001) by Mushi M — 09 Jun 2009
Fair remake of the 1974 Robert Aldrich yarn ' The Longest Yard' which sees professional footballer Vinnie Jones land himself in prison after going wild in the streets. Inside he finds that the 'screas' are not too impressed with his credentials and they do their best to make him feel 'comfortable', not.
Gradually our star baller begins to make friends amongst his fellow prisoners but makes the mistake of going up against the guards. They retaliate by proposing a football match between and inmates and their rulers.
Trouble is there are certain conditions to which he must adhere. Will our hero do what the gurads want and let down his teammates? You will have to watch and see. Featuring a decent cast of male British actors, Mean Machine is enjoyable and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Throwaway entertainment with an edge.
