Review of Mean Machine (2001) by Mark P — 11 Apr 2010
OK it's was never going to win Vinnie Jones an oscar in this retelling of Burt Reynold's The Longest Yard and predates the subsequent Adam Sandler remake, but it's a fun film in which Vinnie plays Danny Meehan a hardman footballer (could be his life story) who is arrested and sent to jail where he subsequently sets up a football match between the screws and the cons. Where Reynold's Film was a brutal indictment of the american prison system, The Mean Machine comes across as a bit more lightweight, but with some incredibly funny moments when the football match happens.
If you still haven't seen this then I recommend it.
A bit of trivia I worked on it as a Prison Convict, and Vinnie Jones is one of the nicest blokes your ever likely to meet.
