Review of Mean Girls (2004) by Ryan V — 22 Nov 2014
Cady (Lindsey Lohan) spent the first sixteen years of her life being home-schooled by academic parents performing studies in Africa, so she experiences some culture shock when she begins attending public school for the first time.
She's swiftly befriended by the school's resident queen bee (Rachel McAdams), but her catty backstabbing promptly motivates Cady to stare into an especially cruel abyss. Mean Girls exploits most of the tropes associated with teen comedies, but Tina Fey's winking script transforms the movie into something much more witty and entertaining than the genre's typical fare.
The core cast does a fine job, but they're ably supported by a bench composed mainly of Fey's compatriots at Saturday Night Live.
