Review of Me Before You (2016) by Casi H — 10 Jun 2016
This is going to be a short review because I don't want it to spoil any of this film. I don't know what the critics are talking about, I really don't. It leaves me wondering if they saw the same film. The characters were engaging and rounded. The chemistry was natural and easy flowing. The emotion was real and I never once felt manipulated. In a sea of Nicholas Sparks tripe, this was a breath of fresh air. Bring tissues though.
EDIT MUCH LATER.
Okay, so, I wanted to leave my original review but I wanted to add a thought. Something that didn't occur to me because I am an able bodied person is that this film, this whole story, doesn't really treat the concept of a disabled man very sensitively. I have no context in my own life, so I am not equipped to make a judgement on it, I therefore bow to the opinions of those who are. Without spoiling anything, it seems to me that the ending could have been better. It could have been less damaging in its message. I'm dropping my score for this film from a four to a three. I still enjoyed the romance, but I understand that it was a deeply flawed story.
