Review of Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005) by Cody L — 01 Jun 2010
Remarkable, unique, and artfully wrought film by first time writer/director Miranda July. Its about a group of characters linked in some way or another, by fate, work, or family. July, who also plays the part of a lonely cab driver/aspiring artist, tells the story in a series of character vignettes that come together in surprising ways.
The picture is all about how we connect in a modern society and how our curiosity impacts our environment, creating danger or wonder. The humour, some of it involving children and sexuality, is handled so delicately, it is more innocent than uncomfortable.
There's magic and trouble in life, July seems to be saying, but you'll never know if you never look outside your personal space.
