Review of Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005) by Nathan F — 24 Jul 2008
Two-parts misguided to one-part inspired; a movie that flirts with genius, but ends up too self-conscious (and self-conscious indie is self-defeating). Like a rough draft of a movie; one that deserves to be rewritten and done right.
Every now and then it appears to be surrendering to indie stylistic paradigms; a bit too deadpan--dare it be said, "quirky." Bravely candid in certain areas; but candidness and realism are not always synonymous.
Worth watching; although, half the characters could be excised--perhaps Me and You and Some of the People We Know would have been enough. A bit too art-school for its own good. I'll stop bitching now.
