Review of Me and Orson Welles (2008) by Steven P — 02 Jan 2010
There was a lot about this film that was charming - I liked the genuine affection it showed for the world of theatre, while still managing to send up some of its more risible features, for example. And there was some excellent acting on display, particularly from Christian McKay.
But at the same time, I found it quite hard to engage with this film particularly - I was never particularly rooting for the lead character or particularly invested in his life, so I always felt rather on the outskirts of things.
On top of that, I felt it took rather a long time to wrap up - I was keeping a mental checklist of plot threads that were still due a conclusion of some sort for about the last half hour of the film, and I probably ended up focusing more on that than I was on what happened onscreen, which was a shame.
