A rare mis-step for Richard Linklater: This is a perfectly watchable (on a Sunday afternoon) film, with a good performance from Christian McKay and featuring an under-used Eddie Marsan. The main problem is Efron: Blandy McBland in an attempt to be taken more seriously.

The film itself is 'okay'; just a bit non-eventful and dull. A bit like someone recounting a story that happened to them, but you had to be there to appreciate it. Welles is portrayed as an egotistical arse - this might be true, but Liev Schreiber did a better job in RKO 281, which was also a far more interesting, insightful film.
