Review of Me and Orson Welles (2008) by Jen H — 07 Feb 2011
I really enjoyed this film so much, despite my reserve for the abilities of Zac Efron. However, Efron is rather enjoyable to watch as an ambitious teenage actor who gets caught in the magic of Orson Welles production of Ceasar. Christian McKay's portrayal of Orson Welles is masterful to say the least. The presence, the bullish wit the simmering genius that was indisputably Welles has all been captured by McKay and is a joy and pleasure to watch.
We follow Efron's character as he falls for Claire Danes and becomes embroiled in the world of Orson Welles. This is all done very nicely but for me the actual performance of Juilus Ceasar shown within the film is a masterpiece by itself. I found myself wishing that it was a real stage production that I could go and see and witness the likes of Ben Chaplin throw their acting might into a fantastic performance.
