Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Nina G — 26 Jun 2015
Go see Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Whether you've read the book and loved it or haven't even heard of it, this movie will be enjoyable for the whole family. I read the book, and though the movie plot strays from the source material (especially in the second half of the film), the essence and feel of the novel that I enjoyed so fervently are still there in the movie. Jesse Andrews does an impeccable job adapting his debut novel for the screen, and the main cast (Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, and RJ Cyler) artfully bring their characters to life. They are supported by a fantastic group of adult actors, including Molly Shannon, Nick Offerman, Jon Bernthal, and Connie Britton. I don't usually post long-winded reviews such as this on Facebook or anywhere for that matter, but this movie was so well made and so well adapted from the novel that I wanted to share my feelings about it.
When a book I love as much as this one is made into a movie, I am more often than not disappointed by the adaptation. In this case, however, I was blown away. This movie went above and beyond my expectations.
