ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL-2015(PG-13)-July 4.
By:The Movie Guy.
In one of the most uniquely honest & realistic looks at high school teenagers that has graced the big screen in a long time, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl tells the story of Greg(Thomas Mann,) a socially estranged high school loner who happens to be a very creative and talented filmmaker. He & his only friend, who he prefers to refer to as his "co-worker," Earl(RJ Cyler)have produced a number of very funny parodies of classic films purely for their own entertainment. Senior year Greg is dislodged from his insular routine when his mother insists that he befriend a classmate, Rachel(Olivia Cooke) who is dying from cancer. This awkward interaction evolves into a genuine friendship & ultimately a personal evolution for Greg. Based on the novel by Jesse Andrews, who wrote the screenplay & directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is profound & funny & visually rich & artful. The performances from the cast were all terrific & spot on. The cast included Molly Shannon as Rachel's alcoholic mother, & Nick Offerman as Greg's eccentric father. This is the MUST SEE FILM of the summer.
