Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Brad M — 06 Jul 2015
Teenagers who look and talk like real teenagers (I know, I've been hanging out with three of them for the past couple weeks), what a concept. Sure its not the most original story and I was thinking about teenage angst movies and mostly came up with old Molly Ringwald films, so its slightly refreshing to see a young man's film handled so deftly.
The real reason this movie succeeds is the incredible young actors who play the three leads; they are all truly wonderful performances. It gets a bit maudlin, but I really think it earns the tears. If you get a chance to see it in a theatre, please do.
Its another film, like last year's "Short Term 12" that respects young people enough to portray them clearly and honestly. Probably my favourite movie of the year so far.
