Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Alan W — 29 Aug 2015
A smart update of Love Story for the 21st century iGeneration, but it is more than just another YA 'sick teen' movie. It boasts a realistic narrative with an uncontrived look at growing up and a natural and likeable trio of young actors, even though their articulacy and their sophisticated film knowledge are a bit too good to be true.
If you can overlook that and a certain whimsicality about the film (and any cinephile would be forgiving as the parody films within the film are rather clever), there is a moving and intelligent film to be enjoyed here.
