Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Jim H — 16 Sep 2015
A fresh look at the coming of age genre, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl features solid performances across-the-board from the entire cast, especially from its title characters. While Thomas Mann does most of the heavy lifting as Greg Gaines, RJ Cyler who plays Earl can more in one look than Mann's character says in page of dialogue.
As always, any opportunity to see the amazing Connie Britton on screen is time well spent. Molly Shannon is a true surprise as Denise, Rachel's mother; Molly takes us to the edge of being over the top, but never jumps the shark in contrast to her former Saturday Night Live characters.
Everything about this film works.
