Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Andrew M — 17 Nov 2015
Quirky in style, and yet mundane in story and setting, and I mean both of those in a positive way. Sure, some of the characters, a teacher and the parents in particular, may seem odd, but they feel like real people and not just characters on a screen.
This feels like a real event that could happen at a high school, and yet is told with a flair that makes it at once funny and tragic. The ending scene caught me a little off guard, as it seemed to come out of nowhere, but that did get tied in to a previous part of the film in the end.
Overall, I quite liked this (especially compared to a certain, "real" film last year). Not going to appeal to everyone, but if you like somewhat different films this is worth checking out if you can.
