Review of McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) by Laurence T — 19 Nov 2008
Despite its stellar reputation, I was mostly indifferent to this grim story. Long before I was on this huge Altman kick I'd seen this and quite liked its upending of the Old West. This time around, however, I was not so impressed.
The gloomy Western setting in the snow almost put me right to sleep. So do Leonard Cohen's astonishingly pretentious songs lyrics. Definitely some good moments, but far from my favorite Altman.
