Review of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) by Ariel S — 23 Jan 2017
This is just a slight step up from the first movie in the franchise. The 1st act seemed to be a strange retread, or at least re-framing of the first film, almost like they wanted to reestablish the isolation of these kids.
However as the story developed we were given some legitimate information and actually got to see what was going on in this post-apocalyptic world. The action sequences, particularly with the zombies were shot very well, and actually got my heart pumping a little bit.
It devolved a bit in the 3rd act, and I lost some interest in where it would go next. The lead actor and actress are horribly cast, and have no charisma or chemistry, so they sink the film almost single-handedly.
But there was enough excitement in that 2nd act, despite the bland leads, that I was locked in for the ride and actually didn't hate watching The Scorch Trials. But if they ever release another one, I doubt I'll be rushing to the theater to see it.
