Review of May (2003) by Melanie Z — 17 Oct 2009
Great movie from A-Z, Bettis is brilliant as may, she is awkward, and at times down right weird. She pulls off one of my favorite female performances of all time, next to Shawnee Smith in Saw II.
The very, down to earth atmosphere makes this movie very realistic and connectable for anyone who has ever suffered from social anxiety, or poor parenting. And I honestly believe that includes pretty much everyone. Everything about this movie is "Pushy", and by "Pushy" I mean it shoves you directly into it's world of struggling romance, fear, and socialogical deprevity.
This film draws you in subetly, then puts a noose around your neck, and kicks the platform outfrom under you. Love it or Loathe it, May leaves you seeing the world in a different light. And there are very few films that accomplish that.
So bravo to director Lucky McKee.
