Review of Max Payne (2008) by Christian V — 14 Jun 2010
Oh dear oh dear you know guys the only real person we have to blame here is Beau Thorne: the screenplay writer to the game to film Max Payne. First off John Moore, the director, is not to blame: with beautiful cinematography and high production values he's able to successfully recapture the essense and scenery of the original game.
As for Mark Wahlberg, he makes for the perfect Max Payne, sure some of you question his acting skills in this film but the real problem was the material he was stuck to work with here. What we should scold Moore and Wahlberg for is their stupidity to accept working with Beau Thorne's illogical screenplay which is hardly anything like the game's story at all.
Sure I could understand why Wahlberg was okay with this script seeing as how he chose not to play the original game out of paranoia in getting addicted to it otherwise he would've realized how inferior it really was.
But I expected better of you Moore: guy who directed the pretty decent "Behind Enemy Lines". If it hadn't been for Beau Thorne and if it was some other man who chose to stay faithful to the original classic game when it came to the screenplay then this movie could of been at the very least fresh and yes fellow gamers: the first great video-game adapted movie in hollywood history :(.
