Review of Max Manus: Man of War (2008) by Dan B — 16 Mar 2010
A solid piece of filmmaking! This war film is not only entertaining but educational as well. Combining action, drama and comedy it tells the story of a very important person during World War II. Acting was very very good and I thought the pacing of the film and the look was, for the most part, excellent.
I will say there were a few moments where I felt the shaky cam wasn't needed and I don't think the struggle Max had emotionally had the emotional impact it deserved (possibly due to wrong music or editing I'd have to watch it again to be sure) but the problems I had with the film were sooooo small in comparison to the well told story of Max Manus.
A high recommend for anyone into historical films or just war films in general. As long as you don't mind subtitles, you're sure to enjoy this one.
