Review of Max (2016) by Brandon W — 16 Mar 2016
I honestly came in with dull expectations because I didn't care if it was good or not as I was watching this in a drive-in theater and wanted to watch Terminator Genisys. So when I finished watching Max, it was an all right movie that it's one of those films that your mom, daughters, or your wife would enjoy.
The acting is fine, although the main kid can act a bit too much of a jerk at times. The first 10 minutes are pretty good that I actually want to se a movie out of the brother, because at least it'll be more original than what the filmmakers created out of the kid's story.
The main story is so frustratingly cliched that I can tell what's going to happen next because I've seen kids films like this before, and done better also. The dog who plays Max is actually pretty good, and the character is developed enough that I care more of the dog than I do with the human characters.
It has an obvious villain, and an obvious love interest that I felt that I would've forgive it if the chemistry was good or that the villain is three-dimensional, but the villain is your everyday villain, and the chemistry could've been better if the film spent a little more time on it.
There are some funny moments, and there are some good moments, with the brother and his dog for example, but they just weren't enough to save this film from being mediocre and forgettable, but it is harmless though and the cute moments can get a smile out of anyone, including me.
