Review of Max (2000) by Nick L — 05 Dec 2007
"Max" is a daring, darkly witty and poignant film, mixing fact and some well judged fiction to reveal the factors that drove Hitler into fulfilling his completely malign potential. John Cusack is solid and understated as the eponymous Max, a Jewish art dealer who befriends an odd young Austrian painter who's a veteran of the Great War and possesses some odd views about politics.
This film possesses both brains and balls as it explains but not condones the reasons and prejudices that drive dark intentions.
