With dark wit, this semi-historical take on Hitler's days as an artist provides a unique portrayal of the difficult times Germans faced after World War I that made them susceptible to the sophistry that became Hitler's "kitsch.

" As Max Rothman, Cusack struggles to impress upon Noah Taylor's Hitler the meaning of hard work and digging in deep as the source of true art - the exact opposite of the "feel-good" nationalism that Hitler propagated.
