Review of Maurice (1987) by Joanna H — 18 Apr 2006
I read this book, and I thought the movie was very well done. Maurice is based on E.M. Forester, and the story is mostly factual, based on his experiences with homosexuality. I actually really liked Hugh Grant in this one, even though he has let me down before.
Amazingly erotic and heart-wrenching. Especially heart wrenching when you consider the novel "Maurice" that E.M. Forester wrote remained unpublished in his lifetime. I read that "Maurice" the novel was found next to his death bed in the 1970s, and it had a note on it saying "publishable, but worth it?" I can't imagine hiding my love away for a lifetime.
Nevertheless, it is a beautiful romance that I highly recommend.
