Review of Matchstick Men (2003) by Cheri B — 20 Sep 2012
This is a movie with a well constructed plot (thanks to Garcia's novel), decent acting, and a nice Maupassant-like twist ending. It is more sophisticated than most modern morality tales (which it is not one of), yet there are a few (not many) fair complaints.
Revealing more details of the plot against Roy Waller would have been a welcome addition to the falling action. Also, the nice, warm ending may be considered sappy by some. Despite this, Matchstick Men is a solidly good movie which should have been more seriously considered for a few Oscar nominations.
